Mrs. Tickner Keep Off the Grass The article “Keep Off the Grass” written by Ron Geraci says that people singing the praises of the medical uses of marijuana need to take a look at the risks. Research at the University of Texas at Huston Medical School shows that 17 men who had smoked pot regularly for 34 years did much worse on short-term memory tests than 30 men who did not use pot. Other risks of marijuana use include increased incidence of infection, and lung cancer. In addition, a 3 year study by Ronald Kadden, a psychologist at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, indicate that pot smokers, even occasional users, suffer withdrawl symptoms. Suffering withdrawl when discontinuing use of a drug indicates addiction. The reader is left to answer the question, are the benefits of marijuana worth the risks?
