Library Circulation Procedures

Regular Books

1. Regular books are checked out for 15 school days (usually 3 weeks). There is a two day grace period on overdue books. Overdue fines are $ .10/per school day.

2. Regular books may be renewed twice, after that special permission will be needed to renew the book. The book must be brought to the Library to be renewed.

3. There is a limit of 20 items checked out per student. When topics are assigned for classes, limits may be placed on the number of items that a student may check out on that topic.

Reference Books

1. Reference books may be checked out during 7th hour or after school. They will be due before school the following school day. There is a $.25 per hour fine for reference books that are overdue. Reference books may not be renewed.

2. Since reference books are expensive, a limit of one or two is usually placed on the number a student may check out.

Magazines

1. Current magazines may not be checked out. They are not to leave the Library.

2. Back issues of magazines may be checked out. Write the name of the magazine and the date of the issue and give the paper to someone at the Circulation desk. It takes a little time to check out back issues of magazines, be patient. They have a 15 school day loan period (just like regular books).

3. Magazines may be renewed twice. They must be returned to be renewed.

4. It is important to keep the barcode on the magazine which has been checked out. A $.25 fine is charged for lost barcodes. Magazines are put in large envelopes to protect them and help keep the magazine and the barcode together.

To Return Materials

Hand the materials to the person working at the circulation desk or leave the materials on the circulation desk.

Overdue Materials

1. Overdue notices are periodically sent to a student’s homeroom teacher. A student is responsible for overdue materials even if he/she does not receive the overdue notices. Overdue lists are also posted outside the library door.

2. When a student is sick, fines will be charged unless the material is returned the first day a student returns to school after the illness. The student must tell the librarian that he has been absent.

3. Students who have overdue materials or fines from the previous quarter will not be allowed to come to the Library from Study Hall. They will not be allowed to check anything out until the previous quarter’s record is cleared.

Yearbooks

The Library has Blue Mound, Macon, and Meridian yearbooks. These are kept behind the desk & must be checked out to be used. They are checked out for an hour and may not be taken out of the room.

AV Materials

VCR tapes,  filmstrips & other audiovisual materials are listed in OPAC, but may not be checked out by students. Sometimes they may be viewed in the Library during the student’s Study Hall time (at the discretion of the Librarian).

Copier Information

Students may have 2 pages copies from a reference book free per project (not per day). Additional copies and copies from other sources are $.05/page.

Printing

When printing homework that a student has written (such as vocabulary lists, research papers, etc.), there is no charge for printing. When printing from the Internet or from the CD-ROM sources, the first two pages are free and there is a charge of $.05/page for additional pages. Please ask for help before you print.

Internet

A student must have an Acceptable Use Policy on file before the Internet can be used. The Internet is to be used for school assignments only. General surfing, email & chat groups are not allowed on the Library computers unless it is for a class assignment.
