Meridian High School Library Procedures

The Library should be a quiet place where students may come to read or work on assignments. The student should have a reason to be coming to the Library. To maintain an atmosphere conducive to research, the following procedures will be followed.

          1. Students will come from Study Hall and enter by the west door. Students will leave Study Hall as a group and arrive together, they are not to stop at the restroom or locker on the way to the Library.  If a student stops by the office or to talk to a teacher, he/she must bring a pass from that person.

          2. Depending on the number of students in the Library, students will be seated individually at the tables or in pairs. Students may quietly work together; however, this does not mean using normal conversation voice levels, nor does it mean discussing social events. Generally speaking, if I can hear what is being said, then the students are being too loud and will be warned to be quiet or return to Study Hall.

          3. Students may not leave the Library to go to their lockers, the water fountain, the rest room, or a classroom ( unless they have a pass from a teacher).  If it is necessary to leave, a student must use a planner pass.

          4. Students may not eat, drink, or chew gum in the Library. Violating this policy may result in the student being sent back to Study Hall.  Radios, cards, Walkman-type tape players, MP3 players, and video games are not allowed. Students may not sell stuff in the Library.

          5. A student who is being disruptive will be sent back to Study Hall (it will cost a pass to be sent back).

          6. If a student is sent back to Study Hall twice, the student will not be able to return to the Library until a new grading period begins.

          7. Students with materials overdue or unpaid fines from the previous grading period will not be allowed to come to the Library from Study Hall until their records are clear. Students with unpaid fines or materials overdue from previous grading periods will not be allowed to check anything out of the Library.

          8. The Library’s computers may not be used to play games. Students may not bring their own programs to use on these computers. Internet use is for educational purposes only and a student must have a signed Acceptable Use Policy on file.
